Bonus vs. premio vs. gratifica
In Italian, the concept of a bonus or extra payment is split into three main terms: bonus, premio, and gratifica. While they can sometimes be used interchangeably in casual conversation, they have distinct bureaucratic and nuance-based differences regarding why the money is given and who is giving it.
Bonus
B1The word bonus is used exactly as it is in English. In Italian, it has a very modern feel and is frequently used to describe incentives provided by the government (tax breaks, subsidies) or standard corporate performance incentives. It implies an extra benefit added to a baseline.

It conveys a sense of thankfulness.
