We will experiment with ads and - if necessary - think about a subscription model that keeps as many features free as possible.

Yes, but the date is still unclear. However, we already optimized the site for mobile devices, so you can use it in a browser on any device until the app is released.

ListeningPractice.org is Linguno's predecessor. We recommend using the conjugation practice on Linguno, as it offers everything from the old site plus many new features. By using the new site, you also help us improve the exercises. However, we have decided to keep both of them operational for now.

We decided to take our time and create a proper teacher's section instead of rushing it to have a few features ready as soon as possible. The estimated release date of this section is in 2026. Until then, your students can only use our site on their own.

Yes, we are planning to add more, but it could take years before it happens. The following languages are the most likely to be added next (based on demand and availability of resources):

• Dutch
• Polish
• Russian
• Turkish

Yes, we are planning to translate the site into Spanish in 2026. More translations will be added later.

Currently, the only way to attach a screenshot is by sending us an email ().

We are still working on the details, but we plan to add more gamification elements to the site in the future.

You can disable sound effects in two ways: either by toggling the 'Sound effects in exercises' setting in your Profile or by clicking the speaker icon in the site's header during an exercise. This mutes notifications for correct and incorrect answers, as well as the crossword completion sound.

Please note that this does not mute the audio playback of words and sentences. To turn this off, select the 'No audio' option in the exercise's customization settings, or click the speaker icon above the grid in crosswords.

You can find the list of sentences you have favorited during exercises by clicking the 'Sentences' button on your Profile page. Currently, no activities are available for these sentences, but we plan to add some in the future.

Your conjugation rank measures your proficiency across all verb forms. There are four ranking levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond), each with three sublevels (1, 2, and 3 stars).

• Bronze: you start out on this rank.
• Silver: if you can't practice regularly, aiming to reach this rank is a reasonable goal.
• Gold: if you have reached this rank, you are way above the average.
• Diamond: the highest achievement that only the most dedicated 1% of our users will attain.

Your ranking score (initially 1000) determines your ranking level (starting at Bronze 1-star). The threshold for the next level is always 100 points higher than for the previous one, as you can see in the following table:

Your conjugation rank progress slows down as you move up, so being stuck on a conjugation rank for a few hundred exercises is completely normal. There are two main reasons why you might be stuck:

• You are making too many mistakes. If you've already done thousands of exercises, you are most likely on the level which best represents your skill level. To reach the next level, you need to become more consistent with your answers.
• The variety of the verb forms that you practice is too low. The ranking system is designed to favor those who practice a large number of different verb forms. Try adding more tenses and verbs for your practice sessions.

You can select the conjugations you want to practice by clicking on the 'Customize' button at the bottom of the conjugation setup page. You can specify the tenses, verbs and personal pronouns that you want to include. You can also limit the scope of the exercises by setting the reflexivity or the regularity of the verbs.

Every time you start a session with customized settings, your settings get saved into a new preset. You can find your presets in the dropdown menu next to the 'Your presets' label. By default, their name is the timestamp of their creation. However, we strongly advise you to change it to a more descriptive name if you are going to use the same settings regularly. There are three main benefits to changing their name:

• it's easier to recognize the conjugations included in the preset
• the session is going to load faster because we save a lot more details about presets whose name has been changed
• you can see detailed statistics on the statistics page for named presets only

We have created presets that include the conjugations required on different levels (A1 through B2). Requirements might differ for your specific goals, so make sure to check the conjugations included in the presets.

A knowledge score of over 90% is a good score to advance to the next level.

Our exercise selection algorithm has multiple layers ensuring that you always get the exercise that maximizes your learning rate. It has the following characteristics:

• it uses spaced repetition
• failed exercises will show up again in a couple of minutes
• the result of each exercise affects similar verb forms as well
• you are more likely to get exercises from your problem areas (see the answer to 'What is a problem area?')
• it always tries to select exercises with a sentence (and a translation) if possible
• it tries to increase the diversity of the verbs shown in the exercises

All our sentences (including translations) come from Tatoeba, a free collaborative online database of example sentences geared towards foreign language learners.

While we prioritize providing exercises with both a sentence and a translation, it is not always possible for every verb form. The order of priority is as follows:

1. exercises with a sentence and a translation in your chosen translation language and difficulty level
2. exercises with a sentence but without translation in your chosen translation language and difficulty level
3. exercises without a sentence

So, sometimes (more often if you select a less common translation language or easy difficulty level), you might encounter exercises where the verb form is embedded in a sentence, but there is no translation available. If you are struggling with understanding a sentence without translation, you have the following options:

• click the 'Translate with machine' button to translate the sentence with Google Translate and DeepL (if available for your translation language)
• click any unknown word in the sentence to look it up in our dictionary

We are gradually adding explanations for the most common conjugation mistakes. For each explanation, we created rules so that it's only shown when it's relevant. If you can see the word 'Why?' next to the correct solution, there is an explanation available for the mistake you've made. You can open it by clicking on 'Why?'.

For example, if you write esta instead of está in Spanish, you'll see the explanation that explains why you have to add a stress mark in this case. However, you won't get this specific explanation if your answer is anything else.

We will be monitoring the most common mistakes in the future to cover as much of them as possible. But if you find a verb form where you think an explanation would be helpful, just send an error report saying that.

When your answer is only slightly different from the correct one, an up-arrow button appears next to it. If you think your mistake was a typo, you can change your answer to correct by clicking this button. This option is only available on PC at the moment.

Your performance in a conjugation practice session is the number of correct answers (including the ones you marked as a typo) divided by the total number of exercises. The results of the mistake stage at the end of the session do not count towards this rating.

Your conjugation knowledge score shows how well you have mastered the verb form groups included in the preset you are currently practicing. Each verb form group contains verb forms with similar characteristics. They are weighted according to their importance when calculating the knowledge score.

To get the full weight for a group, you have to get it right multiple times. You will get the most important groups early on, so your knowledge score increases quickly at the start. But your progress will slow down exponentially as you draw closer to 100%.

When you make a mistake in an essential verb form group, it will impact your knowledge score by a lot. But don't worry, when you start answering exercises from that group correctly again after the mistake, your knowledge score will go back up just as quickly.

The number of verbs for each language is (including reflexive verbs):

• French: 7000+
• German: 6000+
• Italian: 10000+
• Portuguese: 5000+
• Spanish: 8000+

If you're using your own settings and you do not select any verbs, then all of these verbs will be included.

To see your exercise history and knowledge score graph for your own preset, you should change its name from the default timestamp name to something else. You can do it by selecting it from the dropdown list on the conjugation setup page and clicking on the edit button next to it. Once you've done one exercise with the new preset name, it will appear in the statistics page's preset list.

Conjugation areas are combinations of tenses and persons (e.g., present tense, first-person singular). We track your performance in each of these areas to identify your problem areas. You can view your current problem areas on your statistics page. Reviewing these areas can help you improve, but there's no need to create a special preset for them; our system will automatically provide you with more practice on your problem areas.

Conjugation drills differ from the spaced repetition practice in a couple of ways:

• They do not influence your conjugation rank and knowledge score, so you can use them to practice without affecting your stats.
• You can still see your performance in each session measured by the proportion of your correct answers and the 5-star performance scale.
• You can track your progress on your Statistics page by comparing the correct answer percentage and star rating in your sessions.
• When the "with sentences" option is selected, you will only get exercises that have a sentence. This means that verb forms without a sentence in our database will not be included. For comprehensive long-term practice, we recommend using the spaced repetition mode instead.
• The conjugation drill format allowed us to create practice sets focusing on specific aspects of verb conjugation (e.g., the difference between certain tenses, stem-changing verbs, etc.).

In hidden verb conjugation drills, the verb is not given. Instead, you must infer it from the English definition and context clues within the sentence.

Some exercises have multiple parts when several words match the English definition. Each part presents a sentence for a different synonym. You need to enter all correct answers in the text box above the sentences. As you enter a correct answer, the corresponding exercise part will turn green.

The scoring works like this:

• You get one point for each correct answer.
• Penalties: The number of penalties is the higher of two counts: the number of missed primary solutions or the number of incorrect answers you submitted.
• Primary and secondary solutions: Some exercises distinguish between common (primary) and less common (secondary) synonyms. You are only penalized for missing primary solutions. Finding secondary solutions earns you bonus points.

Your listening rank measures your performance in the listening exercises. There are four ranking levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond) and three sublevels (1, 2 and 3 stars) for each of them.

• Bronze: you start out on this rank.
• Silver: Reaching this rank is a reasonable goal if you practice regularly with beginner or intermediate content.
• Gold: if you have reached this rank, you are way above the average.
• Diamond: the highest achievement that requires real commitment.

Your ranking score determines your ranking level (starting at Bronze 1-star). You can gain ranking points by correctly (or almost correctly) typing the sentences you hear. The number of points you receive for an exercise depends on the difficulty of the sentence, the number of mistakes you made, whether you used the slow play option and your current listening rank. You can see the ranking score threshold for each level in the table below.

If you select adaptive sentence difficulty for your listening exercises, you will always get the sentences that are most suitable for your current listening skills.

Most of our sentences (including translations) come from Tatoeba, a free collaborative online database of example sentences geared towards foreign language learners.

Our audio voices are from Amazon's text-to-speech service, Polly. In each language that you learn, you can choose from voices for all major dialects.

The neural tag after a voice's name represents a higher quality voice, produced using cutting edge machine learning technology.

The WordBank is a collection of words categorized by level (A1 through C2). We created it so that you can start learning words right away without having to collect them yourself. You can study words from multiple levels at the same time as well as combine them with your own word list. Our crosswords also use the words from the WordBank.

The only way to access the words from the WordBank is through the word flashcards and the crosswords. At this point, we are not planning to make the lists available in their entirety.

Yes, we are planning to add more than 100 new words every month until we are happy with the number and the diversity of the words in the WordBank.

Your problem word list is an automatically generated list of the words that you've been struggling to remember. They are listed in order of their severity. Once you start building a streak (multiple reviews with a score of 4 or 5 in a row) with a problem word, it will quickly move down the list. You can see your problem words either on the words section of your Statistics page or on your Word lists page.

You can't select this list for spaced repetition practice, but you can click the QUICK REVIEW button next to the list to start a quick review session with your problem words.

Click on the plus icon at the top of the word lists page.

There are 4 ways to do it:

• you can use the plus sign buttons in popup dictionary windows
• you can click the button depicting an eye on the word lists page next to your word list to get to its page; there, you can use the plus sign button at the top of the page to add a new word
• you can import a complete word list on the word import page
• you can add solved words from crosswords

You can access the word import page from the word lists page. You have to paste your words in your target language into the box on the left. Into the box on the right, you have to paste the corresponding descriptions or definitions (the texts you want to appear on the front of the flashcards). On the next page, you will be able to preview how your descriptions will be matched to your words before proceeding to import them.

You can't edit the word itself, but you can edit the description (you can also edit the part of speech and gender if you didn't add the word from the dictionary). There are 2 ways to edit the description:

• in a word practice session, you can use the edit button on the top flashcard when the solution is shown
• you can click the button depicting an eye on the word lists page next to your word list to get to its page; there, you can click the edit button next to the word you want to edit

You can do it from the page of the word list that contains the word:

• click the button depicting an eye on the word lists page next to your word list to get to its page;
• on the word list page, you have to click the edit button next to the word you want to copy/move;
• in the popup window, you have to select the target list from the dropdown menu at the bottom;
• then click either COPY or MOVE.

You have to click the button depicting an eye on the word lists page next to your word list to get to its page. At the top of the word list page, click the CSV button to download your words in CSV format (double-quoted texts with Tab as separator).

We are using spaced repetition to maximize the number of words that you retain in the long run. To predict when you are expected to forget a word, we need to know how well you recalled it at specific points in time. It's also necessary for measuring your progress.

In word exercises, we recommend that you use the following guidelines to rate yourself:

• 5 - correct response easily recalled (in case of multiple solutions, one of the correct responses)
• 4 - correct response after some hesitation
• 3 - correct response recalled with serious difficulty
• 2 - incorrect response, but recognized the correct answer afterwards
• 1 - did not have a clue

We are using a spaced repetition system with a few optimizations based on our user data. In a nutshell, you will see each word frequently until you start recalling it with ease. Once you remember a word easily, we will show it at increasing intervals so that you spend your time more efficiently learning more difficult words.

Yes, you can exclude a word from a WordBank list if you don't want to learn it. When the solution is shown for a flashcard, click on the trash icon that appears on the top card.

Yes, you can select any combination of word lists to practice on the word lists page as long as they contain at least 2 words combined.

Your knowledge score is an estimate of how many words you'll remember in 14 days (without further practice). We calculate it using the spaced repetition model. As the number of successful recalls increases for a word, your memory of it becomes more stable, and you'll be able to remember it for longer.

Your performance in a word practice session is the average of the percentages corresponding to your scores:

• 5: 100%
• 4: 75%
• 3: 50%
• 2: 25%
• 1: 0%

You can choose between two practice modes for word exercises:

• Spaced repetition: in this practice mode, you have to grade yourself after each exercise. Our spaced repetition system tracks your memories and considers their strengths when selecting your next exercise. This practice mode also lets you track the number of words that you have mastered (=word knowledge score).
• Quick review: in this practice mode, you get random word exercises without having to grade yourself. You can also set an auto-flip interval if you want to see the solution and move on to the next card without clicking a button or pressing a key. Your quick review exercises are included in your word exercise count on the Statistics page, but your word knowledge score is not affected by them.

We encourage you to solve as much of the crossword as you can on your own. For this reason, there is no button to reveal the entire solution. However, you can get hints for each word one by one until the crossword is complete.

We have two types of crossword ranks: Word Crossword Rank for level and theme crosswords, and Conjugation Crossword Rank for conjugation crosswords. There are four ranking levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond) and three sublevels (1, 2 and 3 stars) for each of them.

• Bronze: you start out on this rank.
• Silver: if you only practice crosswords from the A1 and A2 level, aiming to reach this rank is a reasonable goal.

Your ranking score determines your ranking level for both the word crossword rank and the conjugation crossword rank (starting at Bronze 1-star). When you solve a clue correctly without hints, your mastery level for that word (or verb and conjugation pattern in conjugation crosswords) increases. Each mastery level-up earns you ranking points. You can see the ranking score threshold for each level in the table below.

Your progress is automatically saved to your browser's local storage after each action. However, if you want to access your save across different devices or browsers, or if local storage is unavailable (e.g., in private mode), you can use the "Save" button in the top right corner of the crossword.

Yes, we are planning to make the WordBank, crosswords and conjugation exercises available for English, but there are no concrete details yet.

It is possbile, but we don't have any concrete plans yet.

The main differences between the two dialects are:

• different voices
• second-person singular and plural forms are not included in Brazilian conjugation presets, tense guides and conjugation tables
• tenses that are only used in one of the dialects (e.g. 'eu estou a fazer' vs. 'eu estou fazendo') are excluded for the other one
• WordBank words with different forms for the two dialects will prioritize the ones from your selected dialect (forms from the other dialect will still be shown as secondary solutions)
• sentences containing words or structures that are only used in one of the two dialects will be excluded for the other dialect

On the other hand, there are a couple of things that are shared by the two dialects:

• your statistics and results
• daily crosswords
• your word lists
• your conjugation presets (but they will only show up if they do not contain a tense that belongs to the other dialect)
