Inadecuado vs. inapropiado

These two adjectives both translate to "unsuitable" or "inappropriate," but they are used in different contexts. Generally, inadecuado refers to something that is functionally or technically wrong for a purpose, while inapropiado refers to behavior or items that are socially or morally unacceptable.

Inapropiado

Summary

The main distinction lies between function versus etiquette. Use inadecuado when something doesn't work well, doesn't fit physically, or is insufficient for a task (a wrong tool or bad timing). Use inapropiado when something is socially awkward, rude, offensive, or breaks the rules of behavior (bad manners or offensive jokes).
