Gente vs. pessoas vs. povo
Understanding the nuances between gente, pessoas, and povo is key to sounding more natural in Portuguese. While all three can be translated as people, they are not interchangeable and each carries a distinct connotation, from informal crowds to individual persons and entire nations.
Gente
A1Gente is a singular noun used to refer to people in a collective, general, or informal sense, much like people or folks in English. It treats the group as a single, uncountable unit. In Brazil, a gente is also a very common colloquial substitute for nós (we).
Havia muita gente na praia no domingo.
(There were a lot of people at the beach on Sunday.)

Pessoas

Povo
