Travailleur vs. ouvrier
In French, while both travailleur and ouvrier translate to worker, they are not interchangeable. The main difference lies in their scope: travailleur is a general, all-encompassing term, whereas ouvrier refers specifically to a manual or blue-collar laborer.
Travailleur
A2This is the most general term for worker. It can refer to anyone who performs a job in exchange for a salary, regardless of the sector or the nature of the work. It includes everyone from office employees and social workers to managers and artists. Think of it as the equivalent of the English worker or employee in its broadest sense.

(Paul is an excellent worker, always punctual and efficient.)
Ouvrier
A2This term is much more specific and refers to a manual laborer or blue-collar worker. An ouvrier typically performs physical work, often in a factory, on a construction site, or in a workshop. The word carries a strong connection to industrial or craft-based trades and is often associated with the working class (la classe ouvrière).

Summary
In short, think of travailleur as the broad category for anyone who has a job. An ouvrier is a specific type of travailleur who performs manual labor. Therefore, every ouvrier is a travailleur, but not every travailleur is an ouvrier. An accountant is a travailleur but not an ouvrier; a factory mechanic is both an ouvrier and a travailleur.
