Major update: revamped user words, custom crosswords, dictionary search, and more
This is one of our biggest updates yet. User words have been completely revamped — you can now add multiple translations per word (primary and secondary), attach notes and example sentences, and use the new Advanced Editor and Housekeeping Tool to manage your word lists. You can also import words from a file, share word lists with a link, organize them into folders, create custom crosswords from your own word lists, and search our dictionary to build rich word entries. Read on for the full list of changes.
User Words — Completely Revamped
Previously, each word in your list had a single description linked to a single translation. Now you can:
- Add multiple translations per word, marked as primary or secondary — just like in the word bank.
- Attach notes and example sentences to each translation for extra context.
Two powerful new tools are accessible from every word list page:
- Advanced Editor — Edit all fields of a word list entry in one place, and get AI-powered suggestions for alternate translations you might want to accept as solutions.
- Housekeeping Tool — Automatically finds duplicates and similar entries in your list, and also suggests alternate translations, helping you keep your word lists clean and thorough.
Importing & Sharing
- Import from file — Upload a CSV or text file to quickly populate a word list.
- Share word lists — Send a simple link to friends or students so they can import your entire list.
- When you import or manually add words, they are automatically linked to the best matching entry in our database, so part of speech, gender, and audio are instantly available.
Word List Folders
You can now organize your word lists into folders. Select a folder when starting a practice session or generating a custom crossword, and all word lists inside it will be included automatically.
Crosswords
- Custom crosswords — Create crosswords from your own word lists and share them with friends or students. Share in Free mode for casual solving, or in Test mode with anti-cheating guardrails where you get to see detailed results for each solver.
- Better daily crosswords — Thanks to an improved generation algorithm, daily crosswords now have much higher density and more word connections, making them even more fun to solve.
Dictionary Search
A new dictionary search is available in the Study section. Browse results in context and build rich word list entries using the Word List Entry Builder. On PC, you can also pin the search bar to the header so it's accessible from anywhere on the site.
Word Bank
- Image coverage has been increased from 80% to 90% — more visual cues to help words stick.
- 200 new words have been added to the word bank.
- Around 100 new word explanations have been added per language.
- Each translation now includes example sentences so you can better grasp the nuances between similar meanings.
Help Chat
Meet Lingu, our new AI assistant. Ask it anything — how to navigate the site, grammar questions, or anything else related to your learning. It has access to far more knowledge than the FAQ and gives you a quick, personalized answer. It can even help you navigate directly to a page or submit a feature request with the click of a button.
Accent Checking
You can now turn off strict accent checking when practicing words. If you'd rather focus on vocabulary without worrying about every accent mark, simply toggle it off in the Customize panel before starting a session.
Other Improvements
The customization panel for conjugation, word, and listening practice has been reorganized into clear sections for easier navigation.
