Portuguese conjugation explanation
-mos-nos -> -mo-nos

In European Portuguese (and formal written Brazilian Portuguese), the reflexive pronoun is typically placed after the verb (enclitic position) in affirmative statements. When this occurs with the first person plural (nós) form of the verb, a spelling change is required.

Verb forms for nós typically end in -mos. When followed by the reflexive pronoun -nos, the final s of the verb is dropped to facilitate pronunciation, resulting in the ending -mo-nos.

verb ending in -s + pronoun -nos → drop the s

This spelling change only happens with enclisis (pronoun after the verb). If the sentence structure requires the pronoun to be placed before the verb (proclisis)—typically due to negation or specific adverbs—the original s is kept.
